Dr. Johan Granberg is an award-winning architect, filmmaker, and educator. With a portfolio of creative work spanning six continents, Granberg is recognized as “a true World-Citizen-of-Design” who combines his Associate professor role at VCUArts Qatar with architectural and artistic practice. He is a frequent lecturer and critic at design schools, conferences, and film festivals internationally. He has been exhibited and received recognition in design competitions worldwide.

Granberg’s over-decennia-long interest in bamboo resulted in his multi-award-winning film Bamboo—the Tradition of the Future, and he is currently finishing up the sequel The Bamboo Dialogues which blends his passion for design and filmmaking.

The vibe inside was actually electric. There were designers, council members, contractors, politicians, project managers, developers, insurers, communications specialists, academics, funders, all with the same goal, to share knowledge, and have conversations that can change things. The talks covered all bases; there was a hugely diverse line up of topics. The energy from the whole week, the adrenaline from speaking, and all of the new information whirring around in my head was exhausting. That sums up the whole conference nicely I think, education, unexpected conversations, new ideas, and sunflowers.
