Bankside Yards: The UK’s first fossil-fuel free major mixed-use development

08 Jun 2022
Stage 3
Zero Carbon Energy

Bankside Yards is a 5.5 acre regeneration of a key site on the South Bank of the Thames between Blackfriars Bridge and Tate Modern. Bankside Yards will deliver homes, offices, a hotel, cultural space and retail in one of the best connected riverside sites in Central London. The development will combine ambitious modern design with the restoration of heritage architecture and will be the UK’s first major fossil fuel-free mixed-use development.

Come and hear how the project:

  • Takes advantage of a mix of uses to balance energy needs across the site using a 5th generation energy network to allow office cooling to provide residential heating and hot water
  • Reduces the footprint of the buildings to open up 3.5 acres of public realm and create new pedestrian connectivity around this busy transport hub
  • Introduces community and cultural uses, and high-quality public realm to support a more socially inclusive and resilient development
