IES Launches Energy Modelling for Retrofit Guide

IES Launches Energy Modelling for Retrofit Guide

With 80% of the projected 2050 building stock already standing today, existing buildings arguably present one of the greatest challenges in the race to decarbonise. The next few decades will need to see an unprecedented acceleration of retrofitting efforts to ensure global climate targets remain within reach. But how can we be sure of making the right retrofit choices for our buildings? Particularly when every building is unique, with its own specific uses and requirements.

To address this crucial question, IES recently launched a brand new guide, exploring the vital role of energy models, data and dynamic simulation tools in improving the performance of existing buildings on the route to net-zero.

Energy Modelling for Retrofit: A Best Practice Approach to Decarbonising Existing Buildings outlines how energy modelling and dynamic simulation tools offer a science-based, data-driven approach to help navigate and de-risk retrofit decisions, to accelerate the net-zero transition. Providing essential insights, these tools can support not only during the retrofit planning and design phase, but throughout the entire lifecycle of a building, to ensure that performance targets are met and that buildings continue to operate efficiently, long after retrofit measures have been implemented.

While existing buildings arguably present a much more complex - and expensive - challenge to decarbonise when compared to new construction, they do also present significant opportunities, not only in reducing emissions, but in lowering energy use, operational costs and improving occupant comfort. This free guide presents a best practice, performance-centric approach to realise these benefits, using energy modelling, data analytics and dynamic digital tools to ensure sustainable outcomes at key retrofit stages.
