Q&A with Anna Maclean, Managing Director, SRE Ltd

Q&A with Anna Maclean, Managing Director, SRE Ltd

Why is it important that the UK’s property, planning and sustainability sectors come together at FOOTPRINT+?

We are facing a climate crisis which will impact every person on this planet.

There is time to avert it – but only with immediate and effective action.

The built environment is responsible for almost 40% of the UK’s carbon emissions. As guardians of the built environment, we, the sustainability, property and construction sectors, need to work together to ensure we can achieve the necessary carbon reduction targets.

We’re all on a learning journey. We need to share our experiences of what works and what doesn’t. We need to learn about new solutions and new technological developments. We need to collaborate.

It’s for this reason that events like FOOTPRINT+ are so important. See you there!

What did you hear about/experience at last year’s event which made you want to come back?

Footprint+ 23 was an engaging and well-structured event with a great balance of interesting talks and the chance to network and share ideas. We are delighted to be involved in FOOTPRINT+ 24 and are looking forward to meeting with others committed to a more sustainable future.

When you attend FOOTPRINT+ in May 2024, what will you be sharing with conference delegates, policy makers, your partners and your industry peers?

Founded 20 years ago, we were the UK’s first sustainability consultancy dedicated to the built environment and our passion is the same now as it was then, to create a more sustainable built environment. We can achieve this by sharing our approach and demonstrating the practical steps we take to achieve our goal.

So, we’re hosting a Breakfast Briefing in which we’ll share our experience of advising on a Savills retrofit project which has gone on to win several awards. We’re going to share what went well, what didn’t go so well and the learning we took from the project.

Do join us for our Breakfast Briefing at the Retrofit Stage at 8.30am on Thursday 9th May.

What are you looking to get out of the FOOTPRINT+ event?

Challenging the status quo is something we have believed in from day one. Why can’t all buildings be built and maintained so they not only enrich the lives of their occupants and generate a fair return on capital, but also have minimal impact on the environment? They can and they should.

We are looking forward to meeting like-minded people, keen to do whatever they can to ensure the UK meets our Net Zero targets. We want to learn from others and share our experiences of what has worked and what hasn’t. We want to discover more about new materials, methodologies and technologies which are making this vital transition to a Net Zero economy possible.

The business of sustainability is always evolving, there can be no status quo – FOOTPRINT+ should energise us all to do more, better and faster.
