Q&A with Dale Anderson – Head of Building Control at Sweco

Q&A with Dale Anderson – Head of Building Control at Sweco

What are you looking to get out of the FOOTPRINT+ event?

At Sweco, we are eager to engage with the FOOTPRINT+ event to share our insights on sustainable urban development and to learn from the collective wisdom of the UK’s property, planning, and sustainability sectors. We aim to foster new partnerships, gain a deeper understanding of the latest sustainability trends and challenges, and showcase our innovative solutions and regulation expertise that contribute to a more sustainable future. Building regulations in the UK are essential for ensuring safety and sustainability, but they can sometimes lag behind the latest advancements in construction technology. At Sweco, we understand that adopting new materials and methods, such as mass timber construction, requires a proactive approach and we want to share our experience and showcase a potential route to compliance for the UK.

Why is it important that the UK’s property, planning, and sustainability sectors come together at FOOTPRINT+?

The collaboration of the UK’s property, planning, and sustainability sectors is crucial in driving the transition to a more sustainable built environment. FOOTPRINT+ provides a unique platform for these interconnected sectors to align their objectives, share best practices, and catalyze actions that address the pressing issues of climate change and resource management. Together, we can work towards creating resilient, sustainable communities for future generations.

What did you hear about / experience at our last year’s event which has made you want to come back?

Last year's FOOTPRINT+ event was a melting pot of innovative ideas and inspirational discussions, which left a lasting impression on our team. The diversity of perspectives, the commitment to sustainability, and the actionable insights we gained were invaluable. The positive feedback from our peers and the opportunity to contribute to meaningful conversations were significant factors in our decision to return.

When you attend FOOTPRINT+ in May 2024, what will you be sharing with conference delegates, policy makers, your partners, and your industry peers?

At our Breakfast briefing Sweco will share our vision for a sustainable future, focusing on reducing embodied carbon and embracing circular economy principles to support UNSDG goals. We will showcase developments in sustainable design, engineering, and regulatory consultancy such as recent UK projects such 36-38 Berkely Square, Paradise Street & 100 Grays Inn Road that exemplify our commitment to sustainability in the Uk . We will share a case study for Mjøstårnet Tower in Norway “previously the world’s tallest timber tower” that will showcase sustainable timber construction, energy efficiency, and life-cycle approach, pioneering eco-friendly urban development.
