Q&A with David Thornley, Partner at exigere
Why is it important that the UK’s property, planning and sustainability sectors come together at FOOTPRINT+?
Sustainability is now at the forefront of everything we do in the built environment, however, much of what we do with regards to sustainability is still in its relative infancy. Whether it be understanding new technologies, setting and achieving targets, measurement of protocols and processes, or ensuring consistency of approach, it is imperative the professions come together to share experiences and continue to drive the sustainability agenda forward.
What did you hear about / experience at our last year’s event which has made you want to come back?
Having attended this year’s FOOTPRINT+, it confirmed our view that the attendees were at the forefront of changing the way the construction industry is building for the future. The debate around ‘refurbish over rebuild’ was interesting and should be continued - we look forward to hearing more on this. We heard how becoming a B Corp is a challenging yet worthwhile investment and are keen to find out more at next year’s conference.
When you attend FOOTPRINT+ in May 2024 what will you be sharing with conference delegates, policy makers, your partners, and your industry peers?
How we, as cost consultants, can add value in the early stages of construction projects, pre-planning, to make meaningful differences to sustainability outcomes.
What are you looking to get out of the FOOTPRINT+ event?
To understand the different challenges we are facing, to hear about new initiatives, and to understand how we can collaborate as we move toward a more sustainable built environment in the next few critical years.
