Q&A with Duncan Campbell, Atelier Ten Director

What are you looking to get out of the FOOTPRINT+ event?

As environmental engineers, FOOTPRINT+ is a big event in the Atelier Ten calendar. We are looking forward to connecting with clients, collaborators and industry professionals to advance the discussion around the decarbonisation of the built environment.

Why is it important that the UK’s property, planning, and sustainability sectors come together at FOOTPRINT+?

The climate emergency sets a stark backdrop to everything that we're doing. There are hugely exciting developments at the cutting edge of our industry and by coming together we can learn from each other and challenge ourselves to do better. It's also important to remain optimistic. These issues aren't going to be solved by any one specialist or magic product. We need to work together from policy makers through to building occupiers.  We need to try, test, measure and communicate what we're all learning in our respective disciplines.

What did you hear about / experience at our last year’s event which has made you want to come back?

To me the most interesting themes from last year's conference were around the power of interdisciplinary collaboration. This year's event being in London is exciting. As much as I love Brighton, I hope that the new venue means that more of the construction industry will be able to visit, learn and take inspiration.

When you attend FOOTPRINT+ in May 2024 what will you be sharing with conference delegates, policy makers, your partners, and your industry peers?

Atelier Ten is sponsoring the Retrofit Agenda Stream this year. We are excited to be driving the conversation forward in an area we're passionate about. Along with sharing our latest thinking and ideas, we're looking to learn from others and get a sense of how we can support the sector as it faces challenges from climate change and biodiversity loss through to economic and social impacts.
