Q&A with Federica Romeo Beattie, Head of Sustainability, Studio PDP
Why is it important that the UK’s property, planning and sustainability sectors come together at FOOTPRINT+?
Events like FOOTPRINT+ provide a platform for multidisciplinary collaboration, enabling us to share knowledge, innovations, and best practices. We’re in a climate emergency, and, together we can play a crucial role in reducing emissions in the built environment. By providing a platform to unite these sectors, we can harness diverse perspectives and expertise to drive forward the agenda for a more sustainable and resilient future.
What did you hear about / experience at our last year’s event which has made you want to come back?
This will be the second year Studio PDP has attended, although it will be my first year at FOOTPRINT+.
I’ve heard so many positive things about the conference from those who attended, particularly about the emphasis on collaboration and knowledge-sharing across disciplines. This environment of collective ambition and shared goals is what excites me about attending.
Last year’s event was a melting pot of ideas, with discussions ranging from innovative retrofitting strategies to inspiring case studies and information about specialist materials. It's clear that FOOTPRINT+ is not just a conference; it's the gathering of a community dedicated to redefining the future of our industry.
When you attend FOOTPRINT+ in May 2024 what will you be sharing with conference delegates, policy makers, your partners, and your industry peers?
I aim to share insights from Studio PDP’s latest projects, particularly our successes and learnings from a range of net zero projects on buildings from the 1920s to the 1980s! I think it’s also important to discuss the pivotal role of upskilling design teams to embed sustainability deeply within our practice.
What are you looking to get out of the FOOTPRINT+ event?
Firstly, I’d like to deepen my understanding of the emerging trends, technologies, and policies shaping sustainable architecture and the built environment. The rich array of speakers and sessions provides a great opportunity for this. Secondly, I am keen to foster stronger connections with fellow professionals who share our commitment to sustainability. By exchanging ideas and exploring potential collaborations, I believe we can amplify our impact and accelerate the transition towards a more sustainable built environment. Ultimately, FOOTPRINT+ serves as a catalyst for innovation and change, and I am excited to contribute to and benefit from this dynamic exchange.
