Q&A with Joe Croft, Head of Environmental and Sustainability at Overbury
Why is it important that the UK’s property, planning and sustainability sectors come together at FOOTPRINT+?
It is crucial that the UK's property and sustainability sectors converge at FOOTPRINT+ due to the pressing climate crisis. Whatever way you cut it, the property sector is a carbon intensive industry, so we need to come together to find a way to dramatically reduce our collective carbon impact.
What did you hear about / experience at our last year’s event which has made you want to come back?
Our decision to return to this year's FOOTPRINT+ event and become a sponsor stems from the inspiring and energising experience we had last year. To see so many clever people taking themselves away from the day-to-day, to spend time thinking, collaborating and engaging in thoughtful discussion on pressing issues left a lasting impression on us.
When you attend FOOTPRINT+ in May 2024 what will you be sharing with conference delegates, policy makers, your partners, and your industry peers?
At FOOTPRINT+ in May 2024, we will share our first-hand experiences and insights with conference delegates, policymakers, partners and industry peers. We have done a lot of work on carbon emissions in fit out and while we have made notable progress in addressing sustainability challenges, as with many things, continuous exploration of the topic has revealed the extent of our knowledge gaps. We have made some great strides, but the more we do, the greater our understanding of the difficulties, complexities and challenges to getting our sector to transition to significantly lower carbon emissions.
What are you looking to get out of the FOOTPRINT+ event?
Our objectives for attending the FOOTPRINT+ event are multifaceted. We will be attending some sessions to gain new insights and knowledge in areas where our understanding may be limited. We are also anticipating that we will be delving into issues where we possess some familiarity but are eager to explore other perspectives from different sides of the sector. Of course, we are also looking forward to catching up socially with some old friends.
