Q&A with Mark Richardson, Head of Sustainable Innovation at Troup Bywaters + Anders

Why is it important that the UK’s property, planning and sustainability sectors come together at FOOTPRINT+?

It's crucially important for organisations and sectors to connect, share ideas and have conversations about how we address the transition towards a sustainable and regenerative built environment. As an industry, we have a responsibility to take action now, work collaboratively, and make decisive progress towards a more sustainable future.

As a leading building services engineering consultancy, Troup Bywaters + Anders understand the importance of our role in the world and the significant impact we can make through our actions, knowledge sharing and support for our clients. We are committed to delivering positive outcomes for all stakeholders, and we look forward to attending and chairing a session at FOOTPRINT+ 2024.

What did you hear about / experience at our last year’s event which has made you want to come back?

FOOTPRINT+ is a key event in the sustainability and built environment space bringing together a broad spectrum of attendees from across industry to drive positive change.

When you attend FOOTPRINT+ in May 2024 what will you be sharing with conference delegates, policy makers, your partners, and your industry peers?

As building services engineering consultants we are in a unique position to influence not only our own operations but those of our clients and projects too. We have developed our integrated ‘Whole Life’ offering to provide excellence in the design and operation of buildings and a roadmap to assist our clients on their journey to net zero.

We’ll be sharing our thoughts on retrofit and reducing embodied carbon in built assets by focusing not just on the energy use of a building, but on the energy it requires from transportation to raw materials, across the design and construction phases and throughout the supply chain. Retrofitting existing buildings offers a significant opportunity for the property and construction sector to contribute to driving down carbon emissions in line with the UK and international targets and achieving the associated net zero targets.

What are you looking to get out of the FOOTPRINT+ event?

With a broad cross section of organisations from the property, planning and sustainability sectors, it will be a great opportunity to connect in person and take the time to discuss moving the net-zero carbon and wider sustainability agenda forward. This will also be a great opportunity to learn from other delegates and strengthen our collective knowledge.
