Q&A with Valérie Bergeron, Business Development Director – Europe, Polycor

When you attend FOOTPRINT+ in May 2024 what will you be sharing with conference delegates, policy makers, your partners, and your industry peers?

When we attend FOOTPRINT+ in May 2024, we will be sharing the following key points with conference delegates, policy makers, partners, and industry peers:

1) Promoting Stone as an Eco-Friendly Choice:

  • Highlighting Embodied Carbon Reduction: Emphasizing how stone significantly reduces the embodied carbon of a building, showcasing its minimal environmental impact and smaller biodiversity footprint compared to other materials.
  • Showcasing Enduring Resilience: Illustrating the enduring resilience of stone by referencing structures built thousands of years ago that are still in use today, emphasizing its longevity and durability.

2) Natural Insulation for Comfort:

  • Utilizing Thermal Mass Advantages: Communicating the environmental friendliness of stone through its thermal mass, which serves as natural insulation. This not only contributes to reduced energy bills but also "flattens out" daily temperature fluctuations, enhancing comfort and sustainability.

3) Historical Continuity:

  • Establishing a Tangible Connection: Articulating how stone provides a tangible link to the earth and human history, aligning with sustainable practices. This connection contributes to a sense of continuity with our architectural heritage, emphasizing the cultural and historical value of stone.

4) Versatile Reusability:

  • Promoting Sustainable Construction Practices: Emphasizing stone's reusability as a key factor in sustainable construction. Highlighting its potential for salvaging and repurposing in different structures, thereby contributing to a circular economy and minimizing waste.

What are you looking to get out of the FOOTPRINT+ event?

In attending the FOOTPRINT+ event, I am looking to achieve the following objectives:

  • Raise Awareness: Increase awareness about the eco-friendly benefits of stone, particularly its embodied carbon reduction, resilience, natural insulation properties, historical significance, and versatile reusability.
  • Educate and Influence: Educate conference delegates, policy makers, partners, and industry peers about the advantages of choosing stone in construction projects. Influence decisions towards more sustainable and environmentally friendly building materials.
  • Networking and Collaboration: Connect with like-minded individuals and organizations interested in sustainable construction. Explore potential collaborations to further promote the use of stone in the industry.
  • Stay Informed: Gain insights into the latest developments, innovations, and trends in sustainable construction at FOOTPRINT+, ensuring that I stay informed about opportunities and challenges in the field.

Overall, our focus is on pushing the narrative of stone as a superior and environmentally conscious building material while fostering awareness and collaboration within the industry.
