Professor David Hughes is Chief Scientific Officer at Material Evolution (Mevo), a UK-based cleantech company pioneering ultra-low carbon cement through its patented alkali fusion technology. David leads the company’s science and data teams, integrating materials chemistry with advanced AI tools to optimise formulation, performance, and sustainability. His work focuses on transforming mineral and industrial by-products into high-performing cement alternatives, significantly reducing CO₂ emissions without compromising quality. In parallel, David serves as Associate Dean for Research and Innovation at Teesside University, where he leads research in sustainable materials and digital innovation to support industry transformation.
