John Bushell
John is a long-term advocate for architectural reuse, and has led some of KPF’s most important transformation projects including Unilever House, which preserved an historic exterior whilst completely modernizing the interior; South Bank Tower, converting a 1970s office tower into a mixed-use development; Panorama St Paul’s, a landmark building in the heart of the City of London; and 33 Cavendish Square.
His ‘keep and add’ approach to adaptive reuse demonstrates the possibility to radically improve operational performance and to preserve the embodied energy of carbon-intensive steel and concrete structures while creating the homes, workplaces, and dynamic neighborhoods that cities need to thrive.
An authority on a range of architectural subjects, John is part of New London Architecture’s Sounding Board and has represented KPF at lectures and conferences around the world. Within the firm, he chairs the London Sustainability Committee. His work has been recognized by multiple awards, including MIPIM, RIBA, AIA, and others.
