Palmerston Court for urbanest gave Mace the opportunity to develop and install in-house low carbon concrete cassettes, generating a 10% reduction of structural steel contributing to a 45% reduction in carbon for each floor plate. With Passivhaus accreditation being new to all, the Mace team played their part in ensuring the stringent standards were understood and communicated, culminating in the project being certified as a Passivhaus building. At the time of certification, Palmerston Court was the largest Passivhaus building in the UK and largest student accommodation/university building in Europe.
